The 3D and 4D ultrasound imaging performed by 3DBabyVu uses ultrasound energy subject to the same limits as conventional, 2D ultrasound used in OB offices and OB Departments. This is because our ultrasound systems are always operated according to formal 3DBabyVu guidelines, which, in part, dictate all our scanning be done in the systems’ Obstetrics Application Mode. In this mode, the ultrasound energy is capped by the manufacturer below FDA limits for obstetrical ultrasound, whether scanning in 2D, 3D, or 4D mode.
Additionally, ultrasound has been used since the 1960s for evaluating pregnancies and there are well over 80 million ultrasound exams of all applications not just OB performed each year in the USA. Ultrasound has been evaluated ad nauseum for these 40 years, and no significant harmful effects have been demonstrated. Although slight temperature changes in the field of view have been noted in a small number of controlled studies, these changes are significantly less that those associated with exercise during pregnancy. Again, despite this intensive scrutiny, there have been no demonstrable negative effects on the fetus to date.
With regard to everyday life, ultrasound is clearly much less harmful than many very common activities: driving, roller coasters, eating at fast food restaurants, drinking coffee or soft drinks, and almost all sports from football to biking to swimming.
At 3DBabyVu, you are scanned by sonographers using traditional 2D ultrasound and several years of 3D/4D ultrasound, further ensuring that our technologically advanced ultrasound systems are used safely and correctly.
