However, not all babies like to pose for pictures at this young age. Frequent baby movement and adequate amniotic fluid are helpful. Additionally, some moms are simply more echogenic - sound waves transmit better ultrasound images with their bodies’ makeup. We will provide you with the best possible pictures of your baby at the time of the exam.
 
We recommend staying well hydrated in the week before your scan so that your body is more echogenic. This generally means your doctor’s recommend daily amount, which is generally 64 ounces (8 glasses of water). On the day of your scan we recommend having a good meal 90 minutes before your scan and one or two glasses of fruit juice about 30 minutes before your scan. This combination of food and juice usually helps wake your baby up while still putting a little bit of pressure on your bladder, making it easier to get better photos while allowing you to stay comfortable.
Several factors influence image quality. The position of the baby is most important. If your baby is cooperative with our sonographer, it is a big help.
